The Pillars room, conceived by 2050+, serves as a permanent exhibition space within the newly inaugurated National Museum in Oslo. Embracing dynamism and interactivity, this innovative room challenges conventional notions of static exhibition spaces, fostering visitor engagement and redefining the art-viewer relationship.

Interactive Engagement

Unlike traditional exhibition spaces, The Pillars encourages active participation from visitors, transforming them into performative agents within the museum. Rather than passive observation, the room prompts visitors to question their role and agency, initiating a dynamic interaction with the displayed art pieces.

Innovative Design Elements

2050+ introduces two key systems into The Pillars room to facilitate dynamic experiences: a dynamic colored display wall and a curtain track system. The display wall comprises pivoting metal panels that can flexibly configure to create varied spatial arrangements, while the curtain track system allows for rapid and dramatic transformations of the space to accommodate different exhibition formats.

Versatile Configurations

Complementing the fixed elements, The Pillars room features a modular kit of parts that enable the creation of diverse spatial scenarios. Migrant structures, locally produced carpets, and fabrics, along with modular podiums and seating elements, offer endless possibilities for configuring the space, fostering novel and unexpected encounters with art.

Departure from Neutrality

In contrast to the traditional white box gallery, The Pillars embodies the concept of a versatile tool for cultural expression. Reflecting the ethos of an experimental theater, this space serves as a testing ground for innovative exhibition formats and curatorial strategies, continually evolving in dialogue with the National Museum of Norway.

Conclusion

The Pillars Exhibition by 2050+ reimagines the traditional exhibition space, embracing interactivity, versatility, and experimentation. With its dynamic design elements and modular configurations, this innovative room invites visitors to actively engage with art, fostering a dynamic and ever-evolving cultural dialogue within the National Museum of Norway.
