Rómulo is a quaint coffee shop nestled in the vibrant Coghlan neighborhood, right by its train station in Buenos Aires. Designed with a vision to create a cozy and inviting space, the café aims to become a daily rendezvous for locals, seamlessly blending the aroma of coffee with the lively neighborhood atmosphere.

Embracing the Neighborhood Vibe

The design concept of Rómulo Café revolves around extending the sidewalk experience into the café itself. This integration is achieved through an enclosure system that can fully open, blurring the boundaries between the interior and the sidewalk. By materializing this connection with glass panels, the café engages directly with the bustling street life, making it an integral part of the neighborhood’s fabric.

Aesthetic Harmony with Nature

The visual identity of the café draws inspiration from the natural elements associated with coffee and the neighborhood’s architectural character. Earthy tones and textures reminiscent of coffee beans and brick structures dominate the palette, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. A stainless-steel countertop provides a modern contrast to the rustic charm of the brick bar, ensuring a hygienic and functional service area.

Local Flavors and Traditions

Incorporating elements of the neighborhood’s identity, such as the banana leaf—a symbolic tree in the area—adds a touch of local flavor to the café. The leaf motif is subtly woven into the café’s logo and signage, complementing the green hues that punctuate the interior’s warm terracotta and almond tones.

Versatile Design for All Seasons

The café’s enclosure system, consisting of interconnected sliding panels, offers versatility throughout the year. It seamlessly adapts to different climatic conditions, providing a cozy space that can be heated without losing its connection to the outdoors. Whether fully open to embrace the sidewalk or closed for a snug ambiance, Rómulo maintains its essence as an inviting outdoor-oriented space.

Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

Traditional craftsmanship is celebrated in the café’s design, evident in the handmade signage and glass elements. These bespoke touches preserve the essence of local shops while embracing modern functionality and aesthetics.

Rómulo Café epitomizes the harmonious blend of nature, community spirit, and contemporary design, creating a welcoming haven where the essence of the neighborhood thrives alongside modern café culture.
